Jack Cassan Memorial Flight Scholarship

Jack Cassan was a huge benefactor and all around role model leader in our city, who loved the airport and supported every event financially and personally at the airport. In his honor and memory, each year, with available funding, the OAA sponsors an exemplary student from the Oceanside area who has the aptitude, interest, and character to be awarded the Jack Cassan Memorial Scholarship. That young person will receive flight training leading to a solo flight and solo sign off in his/her log book. And, they are a living legacy of the OAA's commitment to invest in flight education in our city. In 2009, it was Kevin Williams, a 16 year old from Oceanside High School, who completed his training and a successful solo flight at Oceanside Airport with a large group of well wishers, family, friends on hand. In 2010, the OAA selected Brandon Le from Oceanside Hi, who is preparing to solo in June of 2011. We will be selecting a third candidate this year and hoping to add to the ranks of future pilots in Oceanside!

The OAA's mandate is to support, promote, educate and defend the Oceanside Airport and its continued existence and importance to our community- also we are pledged to support aviation and provide opportunities as we can for new aviators to find their first experiences in flying. The Jack Cassan Memorial Flight Scholarship allows us to accomplish that goal.

We will be sending out inquiries for interested students aged 15-17 to find our next candidate in 2011. Contact Gordon Nesbitt for more info. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
